Interest in vitamin D has increased significantly following suggestion that low vitamin D levels may be more prevalent in the UK population than previously thought. The costs associated with vitamin D products have been substantial in the recent past.
This document seeks to outline the availability of a range of vitamin D products, their potential uses, and a detailed cost comparison. Its aim is to help individual organisations and the NHS use vitamin D products in a cost-effective manner.
The document presents a number of tables that specify a range of vitamin D products and summarise our understanding of the issues as at April 2012. The tables cover a number of themes: clinical considerations; cost; and licensing status, product quality, and risk.
This is the most recent update and our intention is to continue to update the information regularly. We welcome comment on the document contents and format which will be sure to feed into the next version.
