According to PharmaTimes, the US FDA has approved axitinib (Inlyta®) for the treatment of patients with advanced kidney cancer who have not responded to first-line treatments.

The approval is based on data from the Phase III AXIS trial, which demonstrated that axitinib was associated with a longer progression-free survival than sorafenib (published in November 2011 – please see related NeLM report at the link below for a summary of the study).
