From April 2013 (subject to the health and social care bill), local authorities will commission substance misuse recovery services using their public health grant according to priorities agreed by their Health and Wellbeing Board. In preparation, the National Treatment Agency (NTA) “Why Invest?” support material argues for continued investment in effective drug treatment and recovery services. NHS and local authority chief executives will wish to review and discuss the material with colleagues when considering local implementation.
