Latest figures from the NHS Information Centre (IC) suggest that over half of A&E attendances involve patients staying more than two hours in the department – a higher percentage than the previous year. The figures have been released as part of the “Accident & Emergency attendances in England (experimental statistics) 2010/11” which also show there were 15.8 million unplanned attendances recorded by the NHS IC's Hospital Episodes Statistics (HES) in the year, up more than 700,000 on 2009/10 when there were 15.1 million.
