Diabetes and ischaemic stroke often arise together. People with diabetes have more than double the risk of ischaemic stroke after correction for other risk factors, compared to individuals without diabetes. In this review, the authors describe the interplay between glucose metabolism and acute ischaemic stroke and focus on clinical implications for prevention and management in the acute stage.
