The Department of Health has published estimates of how 2010-11 spend by PCTs would be deployed under the new commissioning arrangements proposed in the Health and Social Care bill. The baseline estimates, which have been uplifted to 2012-13 values, provide emerging clinical commissioning groups (CCG) and local authorities with the information they need to support initial planning for the commissioning responsibilities they will take on in the future.
Based on the analysis carried out on 2010-11 spend on public health, it is estimated that during 2012-13, the NHS will spend £5.2 billion on public health services, of which £2.2 billion will be on public health responsibilities, which will fall to local authorities in the future. The information collected has also allowed an estimate of the size of spend on future CCG responsibilities to be developed, of around £64.7 billion.
