A new nationwide Change4Life campaign launches today, warning people that drinking slightly over the recommended alcohol limits can seriously impact long-term health. The lower-risk alcohol guidelines recommend that men should not regularly drink more than three to four units a day and women should not regularly drink more than two to three units a day.
The campaign will run for six weeks and will see TV adverts being shown on Sunday-Wednesday evenings, highlighting that regularly drinking about 2 large glasses of wine or 2 strong pints of beer a day triples the risk of developing mouth cancer and doubles the risk of developing high blood pressure.
