Vifor Pharma UK Ltd has announced MHRA approval for a simplified dosing regimen of Ferinject® (ferric carboxymaltose) for the treatment of iron deficiency.  The product can now be delivered in a standardised cumulative dose of 1000mg, 1500mg or 2000mg of iron; the recommended dose is tabulated in a newly approved, updated version of its Summary of Product Characteristics (SmPC).

The maximum amount of Ferinject® that can be administered in a single IV injection has also been increased, from 200mg to 1000mg of iron (excluding haemodialysis dependent chronic disease).
