The FDA has notified healthcare professionals in the US that it has released the final report of its study evaluating the risk of thrombosis in users of several different hormonal contraceptives. The Agency’s review of these results, and specifically those related to drospirenone-containing contraceptive pills, will be presented and discussed on December 8, 2011. In September, the FDA had issued a notice that it had not yet reached a conclusion, but remained concerned, about the potential increased risk of thrombosis with the use of drospirenone-containing pills.
