The PSNC Head of NHS Services has responded to a study on the impact of emergency hormonal contraception (EHC) on the rate of teen pregnancy and STIs, which was featured in a report by the Daily Telegraph on Monday 31st January. He comments on the fact that data were collected some years ago, when the commissioning of sexual health services was very different, and also on a number of other limitations to the study.
He states that: “The charge that EHC supply lead to higher levels of STI transmission is not convincingly proven in the study; no causal relationship is demonstrated between the services’ administration and rates of infection and the loose correlations shown are hardly surprising given the realities of the areas surveyed.” Please see the link below for further details.
