The NHS Choices ‘Behind the Headlines’ service has produced a quality assessment of press reports that DHEA could become an alternative to current HRT for easing menopausal symptoms.
The press reports were based on a small randomised controlled trial (n=48) that compared dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) to tibolone and a standard daily oestradiol/dihydrogesterone tablet (Femoston Conti) for the treatment of menopausal symptoms; their effects on sexual function were also evaluated. The assessment discusses the study design and results, and how they should be interpreted in practice – please see the link below for details.
