The PSNC has published a short item regarding the manufacturer-initiated recall of all unexpired stock of Ditropan® 2.5mg/5ml elixir (please see the link below for details).

Due to this recall there is currently no licensed oxybutynin 2.5mg/5ml oral solution available in the market, and the manufacturers have indicated that new stock is unlikely to be available for at least 24 months.

PSNC has requested that oxybutynin 2.5mg/5ml oral solution be removed from Part VIII of the Drug Tariff, however until this has taken place any prescriptions written for the generic preparation will only be reimbursed at the Drug Tariff price. If dispensing an unlicensed preparation, contractors should ensure prescriptions are specifically written by the prescriber so that it is clear the prescriber is requesting supply of an unlicensed product from a specials manufacturer. This will ensure payment is based on the endorsed price rather than the Drug Tariff Part VIII price.
