Bosentan fails to meet primary outcomes for the treatment of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis

According to a report by PharmaTimes, bosentan (Tracleer®) has failed to meet the primary endpoint in a phase III trial evaluating the drug as a potential treatment for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, a progressive and usually fatal lung disease.

 

The trial, BUILD-3 (Bosentan Use in Interstitial Lung Disease) involved a total of 616 patients, and was being conducted to evaluate the safety and efficacy of this drug, and failed to show a reduction in morbidity/mortality.
