The second annual report of the National Oesophago-Gastric (OG) Cancer Audit has been published which provides some important information on the overall quality of cancer care in the NHS for patients with this condition.

In this report, the authors describe:

• The process of diagnosis, staging and treatment planning for patients diagnosed between 1 October 2007 and 31 March 2009.

• The treatments received by patients diagnosed between 1 October 2007 and 30 September 2008, together with their short-term outcomes of care.

Longer-term outcomes of care will be the focus of the Third annual report pending completion of data collection.
