The WHO has announced that investigations into the 40 fatalities occurring after innoculation against H1N1 pandemic flu have so far shown that they were not caused by the vaccine. The Agency has reaffirmed that no new safety issue has been identified from reports issued to date and that the pandemic flu vaccine is as safe as the seasonal flu vaccine. The WHO also voiced concern that some pregnant women and others at risk were refusing the vaccine because of a fear of side effects. Governments have so far reported that 65 million vaccine doses have been administered against H1N1 in 16 countries, and immunisation campaigns are under way in 40 countries.
