• Some biosimilar medicinal products have been shown to be comparable to a reference medicine in terms of efficacy, safety and quality. However, product equivalence cannot be considered in the same way as for traditional generics vs. branded medicines.

 

• Due to potentially subtle differences between them it is good practice to prescribe by brand name and identify the brand name when reporting adverse drug reactions.

 

• A number of biosimilar products are now on the UK market, with approved indications that are often the same as reference products.
