News feature on the Therapeutics for Rare and Neglected Diseases (TRND) programme of the US National Institutes of Health (NIH).  Since 2009, the programme has solicited proposals from scientists and pharmaceutical companies aiming to get promising compounds for treatment of rare and neglected diseases into human clinical trials.  So far, the TRND has received 125 applications for non-monetary assistance, of which 10 have been approved.
