This report summarises the findings of a research project to explore users' views of smoking cessation services provided by community pharmacies.  The project was commissioned by the Primary Care Division of the Primary and Community Care Directorate supported by Health Analytical Services.  The research comprised telephone in-depth interviews with 24 people who had accessed the smoking cessation service at a community pharmacy in Scotland.

Participants were very positive about the smoking cessation service provided by community pharmacies.  Satisfaction was high among almost all service users who participated in the research, even those who were unsuccessful in their quit attempt.  Many aspects of the service appear to work well and should be continued, particularly the accessibility and flexibility of the service, the interaction with pharmacy staff and the provision of NRT.  However, there are some aspects of the service which could be improved or developed further.
