NICE has published its final clinical guideline on the recognition and initial management of ovarian cancer, covering detection in primary care, establishing the diagnosis in secondary care, management of suspected early (stage 1) cancer, management of advanced (stage II-IV) cancer, and the support needs of women with newly diagnosed ovarian cancer.  

 

The publication of this guideline has been highlighted in the news, with reports focusing on the recommendations for more initial investigations to take place in GP surgeries.  The ‘Behind the Headlines’ service from NHS Choices has featured an assessment of these reports which also discusses the guideline – please see the link below for details.
