Summary
by: Nicola Pocock

The Scottish Medicines Consortium (SMC) does not recommend micronised progesterone (Utrogestan™) for adjunctive use with oestrogen in post-menopausal women with an intact uterus (HRT) within NHS Scotland.

The drug advice notes that micronised progesterone was as effective as another progestogen in protecting the endometrium from the hyperplastic changes associated with oestrogen therapy. However, the manufacturer did not present a sufficiently robust economic analysis to gain acceptance by SMC.
