The Scottish Medicines Consortium (SMC) does not recommend the use of drospirenone/ethinylestradiol (Yasmin®) within NHS Scotland as an oral contraceptive.

The drug advice (available at the link below) discusses the evidence submitted by the manufacturer and considered by the SMC when making their recommendation.  This notes that Yasmin® has been shown to have similar contraceptive effectiveness to other combined oral contraceptives in routine use, with no significant differences in adverse event profile.  However the manufacturer did not present a sufficiently robust economic case to gain acceptance by SMC.
