The Scottish Medicines Consortium (SMC) does not recommend the use of aztreonam lysine (Cayston™) within NHS Scotland for the treatment of chronic pulmonary infections due to Pseudomonas aeruginosa in patients with cystic fibrosis aged 18 years and older.

The drug advice notes that the submitting company’s justification of the treatment’s cost in relation to its health benefits was not sufficient to gain acceptance and, the company did not present a sufficiently robust economic case to gain acceptance by the SMC.
