The Scottish Medicines Consortium (SMC) has accepted use of sunitinib (Sutent®) within NHS Scotland for treatment of unresectable or metastatic, well-differentiated pancreatic neuroendocrine tumours with disease progression in adults.

Treatment with sunitinib improved progression free survival compared with placebo in this group who were receiving best supportive care, including somatostatin analogues if required for symptomatic control. This SMC advice takes account of the benefits of a Patient Access Scheme (PAS) that improves the cost-effectiveness of sunitinib and is contingent upon the continuing availability of the PAS in NHS Scotland.
