by: Nicola Pocock

Following an abbreviated submission, the Scottish Medicines Consortium (SMC) has accepted trospium film-coated tablets (Flotros®) for use within NHS Scotland for the symptomatic treatment of urge incontinence and/or increased urinary frequency and urgency as may occur in patients with overactive bladder (e.g. idiopathic or neurologic detrusor overactivity).

The drug advice notes that in patients for whom an immediate-release formulation of trospium chloride is an appropriate treatment, this preparation offers an alternative to an existing preparation at a lower cost.
