SMC accepts restricted use of tipranivir oral solution (Aptivus®) for children with HIV-1

Following an abbreviated submission, the Scottish Medicines Consortium (SMC) has accepted tipranavir 100mg/ml oral solution (Aptivus®) for restricted use within NHS Scotland, in combination with low dose ritonavir, for combination antiretroviral treatment of HIV-1 infection in highly pre-treated children from 2 to 12 years of age with virus resistant to multiple protease inhibitors.

 

The SMC has restricted use of tipranivir to patients with a tipranavir mutation score of <4 (this restriction also applies to adults).
