The Scottish Medicines Consortium (SMC) has accepted midazolam oromucosal solution (Buccolam™) within NHS Scotland for the treatment of prolonged, acute, convulsive seizures in infants, toddlers, children and adolescents (from 3 months to <18 years).
The drug advice notes that midazolam given via the buccal route was considered at least non-inferior to rectally administered benzodiazepine in terminating acute prolonged seizures.
The economic case was demonstrated for midazolam oromucosal solution (Buccolam®) compared to rectal diazepam.
