The Scottish Medicines Consortium (SMC) has advised that indacaterol (Onbrez Breezhaler®) is accepted for use within NHS Scotland, as maintenance bronchodilator treatment of airflow obstruction in adults with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Indacaterol has been found to be statistically superior to placebo and other long-acting bronchodilators in improving lung function (FEV1) after 12 weeks.
