The Scottish Medicines Consortium (SMC) has advised that dutasteride plus tamsulosin (Combodart®) is accepted for use within NHS Scotland, for the treatment of moderate to severe symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and, the reduction in the risk of acute urinary retention and surgery in patients with moderate to severe symptoms of BPH.

The Committee added that for patients in whom concomitant use of these medicines is appropriate, this combination allows administration of a single capsule at reduced cost compared to the individual components.
