The Midlands Therapeutics Review and Advisory Committee (MTRAC) has reviewed the evidence on agomelatine (Valdoxan®) for the treatment of major depressive episodes.

The Committee concluded that agomelatine cannot be recommended for prescribing because the current evidence for its efficacy and safety is inadequate to support its use. Additionally, the Committee was concerned that elevation of liver transaminase enzymes (greater than 3 times the upper limit of normal range) is common in patients taking agomelatine.
