The Midlands Therapeutics Review and Advisory Committee (MTRAC) has reviewed the evidence on melatonin (Circadin™) for the treatment of primary insomnia.

The Committee concludes that melatonin cannot be recommended for prescribing in primary care because the current evidence for efficacy is inadequate to support its use. Please follow the link for the full assessment.

[Editor's note: MTRAC reviews are intended for guidance of GPs in the West Midlands region, but may be of interest elsewhere in the NHS].
