The Scottish Medicines Consortium issues advice on eplerenone (Inspra®) for cardiovascular disease in patients with left ventricular dysfunction The Scottish Medicines Consortium (SMC) has completed its assessment on the above product and advises NHS Boards and Area Drug and Therapeutic Committees (ADTCs) that eplerenone is accepted for restricted use within NHS Scotland in addition to standard therapy to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease after recent myocardial infarction (MI) in stable patients with left ventricular dysfunction and evidence of heart failure. Its use should be restricted to patients who cannot tolerate spironolactone due to non-specific hormonal side effects.
