·  Denosumab is a human monoclonal antibody that targets and binds with high affinity and specificity to RANK ligand (RANKL), preventing activation of the RANK receptor, which is found on osteoclast precursors and osteoclasts.

·  In August 2011 denosumab 120mg injection (Xgeva) was launched in the UK for the prevention of skeletal related events in patients with bone metastases from solid tumours.  The subcutaneous injection is given every 4 weeks.

·  The purpose of this review is to evaluate the evidence for the use of denosumab for this licensed indication.
