In its Final Appraisal Report, the All Wales Medicines Strategy Group (AWMSG) supported the use of  pramipexole prolonged release (Mirapexin prolonged release™) as an option for use within NHS Wales for the treatment of the signs and symptoms of idiopathic Parkinson's disease, alone or in combination with levodopa.

Pramipexole prolonged release should be initiated by a specialist experienced in the treatment of Parkinson's disease. In order to limit potential errors, pramipexole prolonged release should be prescribed by brand.

The group is of the opinion that pramipexole prolonged release may be suitable for shared care in accordance with appropriate local guidance.
