The All Wales Medicines Strategy Group (AWMSG) has issued a Final Appraisal Report on epoetin theta (Eporatio®), recommending it as an option for restricted use within NHS Wales for the treatment of adult patients with symptomatic anaemia associated with chronic renal failure only.

The AWMSG is of the opinion that Eporatio® is not suitable for shared care within NHS Wales for this indication.  The Report notes that it should be prescribed by brand name to avoid automatic substitution and therefore help with pharmacovigilance.

The AWMSG does not recommend the use of epoetin theta to treat symptomatic anaemia in adult cancer patients with non-myeloid malignancies receiving chemotherapy, as the case for clinical effectiveness was not proven in this indication.  Please see the link below to access the report, which details the evidence considered.
