In its Final Appraisal Report, the All Wales Medicines Strategy Group (AWMSG) has supported the use of ferric carboxymaltose (Ferinject®) within NHS Wales for the treatment of patients with iron deficiency when oral iron preparations are ineffective or cannot be used. It should be restricted for use in non-haemodialysis patients only, and the AWMSG considers it to be unsuitable for shared care.
