In its Final Appraisal Report, the All Wales Medicines Strategy Group (AWMSG) has recommended that Advagraf® (tacrolimus prolonged-release) should not be used within NHS Wales for the prophylaxis of transplant rejection in adult kidney or liver allograft recipients and the treatment of allograft rejection resistant to treatment with other immunosuppressive medicinal products in adult patients. The group noted that evidence of improved adherence specifically to Advagraf® compared with other therapies was not provided, and adherence was not an outcome in any of the trials submitted by the company. It concluded that the case for cost-effectiveness had not been proven, and current shared care arrangements for this preparation should be revisited. In addition, the group highlighted the risk of potential medication errors due to possible confusion between Advagraf® (once a day) and Prograf® (twice a day).
