The All Wales Medicines Strategy Group (AWMSG) has issued a Final Appraisal Recommendation on the use of saxagliptin (Onglyza®) for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus within NHS Wales.

The Group recommends saxagliptin as an option for use as add on combination therapy for use in adult patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus with moderate or severe renal impairment to improve glycaemic control. The Group was also of the opinion that saxagliptin may be suitable for shared care within NHS Wales.
