Summary
by: Angela Bussey

This is the eighth version of this guide which has been updated to reflect the changes to CD legislation to be introduced on April 23rd 2012.

To PGD or not to PGD is a key tool that is a useful starting point for the many queries which arise during discussions about whether a PGD is appropriate.

Practitioners and their managers who wish to formalise or set up new systems for independent prescribing, or alternatively the supply or administration of medicines, are faced with a range of different methods and need to select the most appropriate route in each case.

The aim is to ensure that the service is safe and meets the needs of the patient.

The diagram attached takes you through a logical process that aims to assist decision-making and has links to other supporting resources.

A good companion guide to this website would be the 'PGD' open learning book produced by CPPE with contributions from Angela Bussey.

Thanks for the suggestion. We do signpost to the CPPE training pack for pharmacists on our training pages which you can find in "PGD development and implementation".
